Yippee!

One week & counting! Super excited to try anything & everything. Get me on that plane & let's go have some fun!

Getting into it.........

New post, I hope. Slicing mangoes, lemongrass, cilantro, de-seeding tiny chilis, great smells, great food and good companions. Got my bug spray, walking shoes, ipod and some maps -- I'm ready for Thailand, with a gang of real Culinary students to learn with, and from. Since I'm not "the real thing", I'll concentrate on other aspects of food on this trip. How food affects social interactions, how to pick the best "street food" vendor, how the food affects me (inside and out), and how it flavors my view of Thailand. Good thing I'll eat anything. Almost anything. So I'm ready, I guess. -- Tom

(SAMPLE POST) Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (Chef, Saturday)

A floating market is a market where fresh produce and other products are sold from boats. Some boats prepare famous Thai dishes (as in cooking in a HOT wok!) while navigating the bumper-boat parade.  Originating in times and places where water transport played an important role in daily life, most floating markets operating today mainly serve as tourist attractions, and are chiefly found in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Located a couple of hours ourside of Bangkok, Damnoen Saduak Flotaing Market in Ratchaburi, Thailand, is one of the most famously known floating markets, and is a major tourist destination.
